ACCRA, Ghana – Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday visited victims of the deadly El-Wak Stadium stampede at the 37 Military Hospital, offering reassurance and government support following a tragic military recruitment exercise that claimed six lives.
The Vice President led a high-level delegation, including the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Gyemfi, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General William Agyapong, and her Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia, in a show of solidarity with the affected individuals.

"I visited the victims of the stampede who are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital," Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated. "We spent time with each patient, offering words of encouragement and assuring them of our support as they recover."
The visit comes as the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, announced the postponement of the nationwide security services recruitment exercise, originally scheduled for Friday, November 15, to Monday, November 17. The delay will allow for a comprehensive review of safety protocols following Wednesday's tragedy that left six women dead and several others injured.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended medical staff for their swift response, noting in a social media post that their "commitment has been vital in stabilising the situation during this difficult time."
The incident has prompted national scrutiny of recruitment procedures for security services, with authorities now working to implement enhanced safety measures before resuming the recruitment process on Monday.
"We continue to keep all affected individuals and their families in our thoughts and prayers," the Vice President added, as investigations into the cause of the stampede continue.
