The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has clarified the status of the extradition process involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori‑Atta. According to the OSP, they have successfully placed Mr Ofori-Atta on an INTERPOL Red Notice and commenced steps for his extradition following his failure to appear for questioning.
The OSP explained that after several invitations for Mr Ofori-Atta to appear before them in Ghana were ignored, they declared him a fugitive and began collaborating with international authorities to secure his return.
In its statement, the OSP also stressed that despite media reports to the contrary, there is no internal conflict between itself and the Attorney‑General’s Department regarding handling the matter. The office emphasised that all legal processes are being followed in line with Ghanaian law.
The OSP appealed to the public to disregard mis-information, and affirmed that once Mr Ofori-Atta returns to Ghana, he will be treated in accordance with due process — including his rights as a suspect.
