A social media post by Nigerian activist Rinu Oduala has stirred lighthearted controversy online after she recounted her experience in Ghana, comparing everyday life between the two West African nations.
In a viral post shared by OMGVoice on Facebook, Rinu wrote that during her first week in Ghana, she searched for local pepper grinders but could not find any. She said she later realized most Ghanaians use blenders because electricity is more reliable. “Ghana had light and I should have had a blender at home,” she remarked, adding humorously that she was used to Nigeria’s frequent power outages, which made blenders impractical.
Her comment quickly drew hundreds of reactions and sparked a lively debate between Ghanaians and Nigerians in the comment section.
Some users defended Nigeria, noting that many Nigerians use generators to power appliances. A commenter named John Russell Chimaobi wrote, “On behalf of Nigerians, we reject this one. Blender works well with generator.” Others took a more humorous tone, with one user, Kaakyire Oppong, teasing, “There is nothing under this sun that Nigerians have more than Ghana except gari.”
Several Ghanaians expressed pride in their country’s stable electricity supply. Lillian Amoako-Atta commented, “Proud to be a Ghanaian,” while others joked that Rinu’s experience reflected a common misunderstanding between city life in Ghana and rural living in parts of Nigeria.
Another user, Stephen Humphrey, pointed out that such comparisons are often unfair, noting, “The problem with these posts is someone who’s lived in the village all their life travels to the capital and compares their village to the Ghanaian capital.”
The post, which has since gained hundreds of reactions and comments, has become another moment in the ongoing friendly rivalry between Ghanaians and Nigerians over lifestyle, culture, and national pride.
